Dynamic Forms Demonstration # Demo 24 -- Data Grid Field Types

This demonstration utilizes several new features unique to the 3.0 release of Dynamic Forms:

  • New Field Type -- Data Grid
  • New options for File Attachment/Upload field
  • New Field Type:  Rating

Data Grid Field Type

The Data Grid Field Type offers new and expanded layout options that were not previously available.   Using this new feature, you can now have 'fields within a field' and obtain more information in a more compact layout, using less real estate on your page.  Let's take an admin look at this field type in the image below:

Take a look at the Education field in the demo above and notice how the user options are offered in a drop down list (combo box).  As illustrated in the image below, you can link this combo box to a DNN list.

File Attachment/Upload Field -- New and Improved!

The File Attachment/Upload Field Type now offers more flexibility to tailor to your own needs.  As mentioned in the demo, this field type now comes with the opton to save a file with a unique name, a friendly name or the exact name.  Admins can also choose to have the file stored as the full http reference or  just the filename.  Lastly, you now have the ability to define the upload directory of your choice.

Let's take a behind-the-scenes look at this field type:

The image above shows the settings for the cover letter upload field.

Is it possible to edit submitted rows? After they add a row to the data grid, can they edit it? Or only delete it??? Submitted By: Richard Bailey

Control Questions Questions/Observations Is there any way to prevent it from rescrolling to the top of the page every time I click the save for the question? (Very cumbersome with over 90 questions on the form). Are all the validation options supported for this question type? I am not able to get expression validation to work (although I can on other controls). This is a great tool though and I love this question format! Submitted By: Jerry

Demo 24 - Grid Field Type This is probably one of the nicer features of the next version. I have one small issue, not sure if it's an easy fix or not: (using firefox) I'm unable to tab over to the save button and hit enter, I must click with the mouse. This is somewhat trivial, but would be nice. Thanks, Craig Submitted By: Craig
