I can't get any emails sent out. I can send emails out through dnn and the dnn newsletter module with no issues. I viewed the log for the distribution schedule and it says:

I am assuming the "test" email link is grayed out when the radio button for host is selected because under this configuration it is pulling the smtp info from what is defined in the host smtp setup? Correct? |

When I choose the custom radio button and put in the same smtp info as my host account under dnn smtp settings (which works) , I get the following error: The message could not be sent to the SMTP server. The transport error code was 0x80040217. The server response was not available.
Update: I had to set it to anonymous when using the custom settings. The test email was sent successfully. |

Hi. What version of DotNetNuke is this running on and do you see anything under Admin, Event Viewer that might be more specific about the email error? -Chad |

Hi Chad,
This is an upgrade from 4.6.2 to 4.8.2. I have been checking the event viewer all day and no errors reported. I have tried to schedule emails in testing mode and also send them without the scheduler but no emails go out. When I check the distribution list for a particular newsletter, it show the folks who have opted in so I know their getting added. Not sure what's going on. I'll wait to hear back from you on any suggestions. Let me know if you need a temp host account to the site.
Thanks,
Paul |

Hi Chad,
I tried the custom radio button again and put in my exact settings that are used to send out all my mail through my host settings in DNN and this time it worked. Not sure what the issue is but I believe it might be a problem for others so I wanted to follow up here and give them a work around.
Thanks for all your help.

I am having a similar problem. I send a newsletter, it goes out ok, and reports are ok, except that it reports distribution failures equal to the number of emails in the list I'm sending to. I just upgraded to 4.1, but the behavior is the same. My host smtp settings are for a different address than I am sending from (admin@ vs noreply@). I want to use a norepy address, which is what I have bounce settings configured for. Is this wrong? Do I have to send from the same address I have configured for SMTP settings? Another site I follow is configured that way, and everything works fine. |

Further to the previous post... Four of the five emails in the distribution were received, including the tracking bug image. I have opened three of them, and the report confirms that. The one intentional bounce has been recognized and counted, and the bounced email in the noreply@ account has been deleted, as it should have been. So the only apparent issue is the report item that says 4 of the 5 distributions failed, which they didn't do. Suggestions? Here's the distribution log entry (everything looks good, and it reports success): Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail.SendNewsletters,Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail Verified there are not pending schedules running within the scheduler. To test that theory, I made the host SMTP settings the noreply@ email address. I got the same results, i.e. the four valid email addresses in the distribution were reported as failed, but all four were actually delivered, and the report correctly shows the opens and the bounce. Any other thoughts? What would cause a distribution to be reported as failed, even as all indications are everything worked perfectly? |

Did you ever find a solution to this? I too have the problem where it is reported that their are failed distributions, but yet the emails go through.... |

I had this same issue. It was the SMTP server, which was in the DNN Host settings, the connection was being dropped by the host as too many emails were being sent at one time. |
