In all Data springs applications but especially DR I would like to be able to set the "Email From name" separately from the "Reply to address” for all outgoing emails templates.

So when a user receives an email it will say [from] Company Name and the reply address would be [replyto@companyname.com]

Not a big thing but outgoing emails is a part of the look and feel of the site so kind of nice to be able to set a friendly name instead of having the email address as the from field.

Hi. Thanks for the enhancement request. This is a great enhancement request that could be added to many of our modules. Right now we are still referencing the core email function so I am going to have to review these and determine if we will need to go back to using our own email functions or if there are core functions that can be used which pass the email from / email to name seperate from email address.

    Bamse,

Hi. I wanted to let you know that I found out this can already be done! I actually had not tested it myself but was working with a client earlier and saw they had set the from address to something like this:

    Data Springs Sales Team < address@domain.com >

Also... Just make sure to not have the space between the < and the >... It appears that I can't include that correctly within the forums because it renders it as HTML.

Any experience with changing the DNN Core "From" name like this? As far as im concerned the core default is using the administrators email address as the "From"-value. But it's not possible to change the email address to "NAME < email >" as it isn't a "valid email address".

Hi. I imagine you would be able to do this with a database update. Even though you cannot set it up because of client side validation (for the email validation regular expression validator). You would probably have to update both the aspnet_membership table and the users table with the correctly address/syntax. I have not tested this, but it should work.

Succes! It worked. I only had to change it in dnn_Users. I guess it won't give me any problems that I don't update the membership table as well? Thought it would be more "safe" to let that one be.

Yep! Yes, if you are running an object qualifier you would need to insert that before _users. A good soltution is to execute it under host, SQL and use the token that DNN recognizes. If you use (or do not use) an object qualifier it will be used at run time. So instead of Update Users it would be.

    Update {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}Users

    A few other comments....

    1. You should already be able to do this without a database update if you were using Dynamic Registration and had it linked to the core email field.

    2. It will probably be replaced or not allowed if you go to the core admin, user accounts area and try and update the record.

I just updated it using SQL Server Management Studio....It seems to work fine. Sounds like it would work using DynReg - if theres no regex validation of the email.
