In 3.0 the Compare Validator does not seem to work. I am using it on the email address entry. It worked in 2.4 but now fails. The validation fails when ever the 2 fields are the same or different.

We do have Client Side and Server Validation enabled.

Thanks

Hi. This is one that we cannot duplicate. Are you trying to compare text fields?

Also, are you testing against Firefox or IE?

I am using IE6.0. The field is a Singleline textbox (short).

In validation I am using Required = yes, regular expression to validate the email address.

Compare field is set to yes. The compare field is set to the email address field I am trying to compare to.

My setup did work in the previous version. I have upgraded to 3.02. No change.

I really needed to get this problem fixed so I setup a clean test site to figure out this problem.

I tried my current DNN version (4.4.1) and continued to see the problem.

I then setup a clean (4.5.5) site and had the same problem.

I then accidentally stumbled on how to get the compare field to work correctly. The short field name had to be the same on the 2 fields in the comparison.

Let me know if I should go with this setup method.

If you want to see this on my test site please contact me directly. I can provide you admin access.

Thanks

William

I'm not sure what you mean by: "...The short field name had to be the same on the 2 fields in the comparison...."

Can you be more specific about your solution to this? Are you saying that:
1) You used the same short field name for both the Email and the Confirm Email questions? Or 2) did you use a compare validator on both the Email and Confirm Email questions, specifying the other question as the control to validate against? Or 3) did you use a compare validator on both questions, but specify the same control to validate on BOTH (i.e., on the Email question specify itself as the control to validate against, and on the Confirm Email question specify the email question as the control to validate against). Or 4) something else?

Thanks for a reply, as I'm trying to solve this same problem myself.

I used the same short field name for both the Email and the Confirm Email question.
