We have the 3.1 version of Flash Image Rotator on DNN 4.3. It works fine except that we can't get captions to display below images (but tooltips work).

We've added URLs in case those are needed to display the captions, but it makes no difference. Any suggestions?

Hmmm... This is interesting, what color is the background on your flash image rotator/site? Also, is this on a URL we can review it?

I am having the same issue with version 3.1 of the module, running on DNN 3.3.7. The flash portion works beautifully, but the captions do not render beneath the images.

The page background is white, and in Manage Settings, the HTML Background color is "#FFFFFF" and the checkbox to make the object transparent is checked.

The URL for review is:

Ok, I figured out how to get the text to display at the bottom. First, you have to activate the control by clicking on it. Second, the text at the bottom only displays during mouseover.

Now that I see it in action, I'd like to suggest some enhancements.
1. On the "text underneath" display:
1.A. Give the user an option to have either a mouse-over display or a constant display for the image text.
1.B. Provide more options to render the text - allow HTML, allow a CssClass, or provide basics for Font Face, Size, Color, and Alignment

2. On the tooltips display of the image text, it seems like the mouse has to be over the left portion of the flash control for the text to display properly - it word wraps at the center, and toward the right.

3. This may be too difficult, but is there a way for the flash portion to check if flash is enabled on the browser, and if not, display a default image, text, or maybe prompt the user to install flash (all user selections)?

Thanks!
-Mark

I'm having the same issues. I hope this will be resolved as having the text below the image was one of the main reasons I bought this module. Requiring the visitor to click on it to activate it first before the text is shown is unacceptable and simply isn't going to happen with the majority of visitors.

Hi guys. Does the description display in Firefox? If so I believe this is related to a lawsuit dealing with Microsoft Internet Explorer and it happens with all Flash Applications within IE. We have managed to finally come up with a work around and it will be added to the 3.2 release. You might check out this forum post:

http://www.datasprings.com/Products/ProductForums/tabid/727/forumid/7/postid/901/view/topic/Default.aspx

After the "Click to activate control" feature is added in 3.2 we will review maybe displaying the text without mouse hover, right now if we added that what is a feature to some is not a feature to all. If you would like to display the description with the picture I would just suggest adding the text/description directly to the picture itself although it would be nice to optionally have it either display all of the time or just when you hover over it so we will review it as a possible enhancement.

Chad,

Thanks for taking care of the 'Click to activate control' annoyance. Regarding adding text directly to the picture, I don't consider that being a workaround. As I'm dealing with 50 or so images with this module, of which these images are used in other parts of my site as well in HTML where I don't want text associated with the images. This suggestion would require me to edit each image and add text, then keep two copies of each image on my site, one with text and one without. Having the text displayed constantly or on mouse over seems like two logical options. I use this rotator to display images of my products, and the customer should be able to watch the show without having to interact with it at all (such as mousing over to get the text). I hope you strongly consider this enhancement as the product description for this module never said user interaction would be required for the text to be displayed, so one would assume it would display automatically. The demo on your site doesn't demo the text underneath option, just the tooltips option, so we are unable to see exactly how the text underneath option works before we buy.

Thanks for your time,
Jereme

Just adding my view on captions.
I don't think that the current system really qualifies as 'captions'... they are really just tooltips. I would definitely expect a typed caption to appear underneath the image and was surprised when it didn't. The activation border issue compounds the problem of course.

I also have a suggestion for improvement to would make the module much more self-contained as a content creator's tool:
Add resize-on-upload to the upload control so that images are sized correctly for the module settings.
As it stands, the prep-work required for the module is too high for my typical end-user to manage... meaning I have to do all the work as admin.

Best regards,
Rob

Hi Chad,

Just wondering the status of this issue as I am trying to display text under the images and nothing displays. Tool Tips displays OK, just not underneath, even if I hover over with mouse. I've tried with and without "pause" on mouse hover. I've clicked on the image, etc.

Thanks,

Rob

Rob,

Hi. Can you setup a similar rotation on www.betasprings.com to review, or post a link where you have it setup? The only limitation I know of is that you are very limited on how much text can actually exist there.

Chad,

I added a page on betasprings.com using a couple of images existing on the site. Page: "Flash Image - RJR"

I know this post is almost a year old, but I am having the same problems. I just purchased the module. I am using DNN 4.08.02 and Flash Image Rotator version 3.20.10.

I see my captions as a tooltip, but not displayed as I want them to be, which is "on" all the time. I have "display image descriptions" set to "under image" (my choices are "under image", "no description" or "tooltip").

Still I only see my caption as a rollover, which is just not going to work. can anyone help?

Thanks,
Emily

I had the same problem untill I set the high taller than the actual size of the image which allowed room for the text to fit under the image.

I hope this helps
Cheers

Thank you, Dennis--I did think of that and I did try it.  What I get then is just a bunch of white (or black or blue, depending on what I set my background color) space under the image; still I'm only seeing the caption on a mouse rollover.

I'm also wondering if there is any way to format the caption--to center it or bold it or anything like that.  I've tried putting HTML in the caption field, but then nothing shows up at all.

I've also tried contacting tech support for the company via Snowcovered (where I purchased this module) several days ago; no response yet.  Hopefully they will get back to me, as it seems I am not the only one with the problem, and it seems like the product can't do something it's claiming to do (or at least I can't figure it out!).
