Subject: Duplicate username error message doesn't show up

I thought USERNAME should be unique and required. In testing, when I enter the duplicate username for the new member, it flags * for the required field with no error message. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

This message comes from the module directly (it would appear AFTER other validation so its probably never coming up). The * probably means that there is another validation error that is occuring before it actually does the username check. I would check and determine if another field on the form might possibly be required and not being filled out?

Also, you might check all of your forms validation and maybe change the error message/text from * to be more descriptive...

Hi, Chad.

tried with default setting, and it still doesn't flag any message for a duplicate username. is there any way to allow the users to check the availability of username before proceeding to the next field? That's pretty common way that username is being handled these days, and DR doesn't seem flexible enough to provide such option. please advise. appreciate it.

So you are making sure (besides the username) that form validation is taken care of and then what is happening, this error is actually returned (should be) from DotNetNuke directly with a message you can localize/change under Admin, Languages. I tested this against 4.6.2 recently but it should be the same in 4.7.

What happens when the user attempts to register? Does it just not go through?

There is no way to check the availability before hitting the 'Register' button. We will review this in future releases but its not an option now.

Also, if you can go ahead and open a support case for this and get us temporary rights to the site if possible. I would like to see the exact configuration and so forth.
