I am having an opportunity in formatting a form the way I want it. I reference a test on BetaSprings.com: Dynamic Forms \ Jims Test.

I have 3 input boxes on a single line for First Name, MI, and Last Name. First Name has a defined with of 75.

There is a radio button field (Reg Type) above this line and a multiLine text box (Address) below it. Each have greater widths.

Because Reg Type and Address are wider, they are "pushing" MI and LastName to the right.

I want MI and LastName close to FirstName

I tried setting colspan on RegType and Address, but it appeared to affect their label also, and ended up pushing them to the right also.

How can I bring MI and LastName closer to FirstName.

Also, I have been studying a sample mentioned in the forums: DynamicFormsDemonstration8. This appears to have "overlapping columns between the Contact Info at the top, the checkboxes in the middle, and the multiLine textbox at the bottom.

How is this done? Might it lead me to my answer? There is no description on how the form was formatted. Can its definition be exported and made available? Can it be put on BetaSprings?

In general, I thank I am asking if there is a way to break a form (on a single page) into different sections so that column sizes in one area do not affect column sizes in another area.

Thanks

Chad

Hi. Yes this is one of those that we are going to have to research to determine exactly what needs to be enhanced to allow for the exact look you are wanting.

I did modify /tweak a few things so that now it does appear better. You could implement as few or as many of these options below but they all do help. You can check out the form now as I already implemented these on there.

1. I changed the stylesheet property for the maint able to have a fixed width instead of a width of 100%. This helps

2. When changing those columns such as the radio button and multi line textbox fields to have the field label and field appear in the same column as the question.

3. You can change the display name/email to also be 75px instead of 100 or change first name to be 100px

4. You can specify the colspan on the multi line textbox/radio button (this goes along with #1)

What it really comes down to is that we probably need to add the ability to set the colspan on the field level as well as the field label ready... I think this would provide us with more flexibility for implementations such as this one.

Also  - Ihave updated the demonstration page to allow you to download the IPORTABLE XML DOWNLOAD.

Thanks!

-Chad

Chad,

Thanks.

Yes, I think having colspan affect only the field and not the label also would allow much more flexibility.

Of course, the "optimal" solution, from a user perspective, would be the ability to break a form into sections so that column widths in one section do not affect other sections.  Obviously, the program already know how to end its internal layout table.  If the controls had "section number" attribute in addition to sort order (and "superior" to sort order), the program could end the table and restart another one whenever section number changes.  Just food for thought.

(BTW, I know of two of your competitors that have this capability.  But they do have their own set of issues.)

Thanks Again   ---  Great product --- Love those events, they make it SO much better than others.
