Does anybody know how to get a contact (not user) setup in Active Directory as soon as they register using Dynamic Registration.  As soon as they register an account, their name and email address get shot over to ad and a "contact" in AD gets created.  That way, they are accessible in our Global Address List in Outlook.  Any ideas?

Hmmm.... I will wait to see if any other users post any solutions to this but I will say that if its data driven (if you can insert records directly into AD via SQL or a stored procedure) then you can use a Dynamic SQL Completion Event to add the user... If not I would imagine it would have to be either module or custom code added to the end of the registration process.

Hey guys, my priorities got changed around over the last 2 months, so I have had to let this slide for now. But now it is back to the top of the list.

I really need some help here. This is so important. We are going live with our new site on May 1 and I do not have this solved. I really need someone to help me with this. My company will PAY YOU. Seriously, if someone wants to work up a contract with me, please let me know.

Also, does someone have a better idea than this method? The ultimate goal here is to be able to allow my organization to email all of our new members and contacts using Outlook. When they register, if they just stay in the DNN portal, they are not accessible via Outlook. Does anyone have another idea to accomplish this? I would love some other ideas. I look around on the internet and no one else seems to care about this issue. Thanks folks!!

Did you ever figure out a solution or what you plan to do for this? My suggestion would be to start with a import module specific for Active Directory and / or purchase it with source and have them or another development company (including us) that might modify the code. It would still be easier to start with an Active Directory module though as it already provides the API and necessary code to start from.

Actually chad I think I may have a solution. The tricky part is where I hope you can help me. All I need is to be able to send three querystring variables (fname, lname, email) to an asp page where I already have code that functions fine for inserting people into AD. The problem is, I see the completion event of a redirect, but what I need is HTTP post (Like there is in DF 2.5). Any idea of how I can create a form post event where I can configure some querystring variables?

Hi. Well the HTTP Form Post as a completion event will not be in Dynamic Registration until 3.2 however you can pass fields via querystring to another page (or session variables) where you can then pick those variables up and process them. The HTTP Post feature is a silent post and must be used (or it works) differently then passing fields via querystring variables etc... the HTTP Post can only be silent and does not allow for the ability to both post and redirect to a form etc... If HTTP Form Posts does what you need you could await the 3.2 release of Dynamic Registration I suppose (set for early May) or code the ability to accept querystring variables instead of form post variables. Also you could store all of these same properties in a database table and process them there instead of the form post.

I am confused though about how the password feature would then work in AD? Just curious if the user would be authenticated against their network account password or the DNN Core password when they are setup?

Hey Chad, thanks for the reply. Remember, I am not trying to create USERS, I am creating CONTACTS. This allows for us to access our web membership database via Outlook. I do not need a password and only needs fname, lname, and email.

I know I can create a form completion event to redirect to a url, but it only lets me select pages within the portal. This page I have built would exist as a classic ASP page outside of the portal. Then once it was done processing, it would send the user back to the portal home page. How would I get my completion event to take the user to a classic ASP page, and THEN redirect back to the portal home page?
Sorry, this is so confusing. I really appreciate your help. I really can't believe I am the only one that seems to be clamoring for this. It would seem that everyone would want this functionality. I must be crazy!

Ahh... Well I was thinking that in the 3.1 release of Dynamic Registration you could use a completion event to redirect to a non page (static URL) but ill check on that. Do you need a completion event at all to redirect? I believe you can automatically setup a redirection under Module Configuration, General Settings, for new/updated registrations that is a static URL (seperate from a completion event)
