I am new to using Dynamic Registration, but love it so far! I have a question about changing a field name based on other entries.

My Registration has the following fields as text boxes (among others):

First Name

Last Name

Display Name

How can I make it put in the entered First Name and entered Last Name automatically into the Display Name? (i.e. a registrant comes to the site and enters John in the first name box, Doe in the Last Name box and then when the go to the Display Name it will automatically fill in John Doe).

Any assistance would be great.

Thanks,

Joe

I am still working on this one. I was going to add this bit of javascript to the Last Name "onblur" field:

script language="javascript"
function JoinNameFields() {
DisplayName.value = FirstName.value + " " + LastName.value;
}
/script

(I removed the brackets from the script command so that is will show up in this editor)

As you can tell, I am a novice at javascript. Can anyone from the DataSprings team assist with this, or does this fall under a separate project that requires a quote. If the latter, please send me a quote and payment options to move forward.

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

Hi. You might try and explain a little more about the javascript. It actually renders as HTML to the forums so therefore you cannot actually display it (maybe you can make it an image or something?).

Also... Dynamic Registration has a built in feature. If you select fields for First Name and Last Name and no field for Display Name the module will automatically generate the display name based on the users first and last name. So maybe you don't need this javascript at all?

Thanks Chad. I went in and changed the Display Name field to hide it. It now automatically generates the Display Name as First Name Last Name.

Will it also add in a Name Prefix and Suffix if the fields are set up and mapped to the DNN Core?

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

No its not setup to add the prefix and suffix, you could setup a SQL Event to update the displayname if you needed that though.

Something like:

Update Users
Set DisplayName = '$(Prefix) ' + ' ' + '$(FirstName) ' + '$(LastName) ' + '$(Suffix)'
Where UserID = $(UserID)
