Hmmm... OK let me start by saying I'm a bit surprised at this one, and I'm a bit biased as a professional web developer that produces complex real estate sites. I was looking for a quick simple add-on for DNN that I would buy me a bit of time on my development team while we worked on bigger issues.  I've found out that V2.2 of the real estate module isn't the answer.

After putting in just a couple of hours I've gotten a bit frustrated and decided to Xmod it instead.  The problems are all in the field labels and sharing data between the modules on different pages. I gave up after fighting with it for 2hrs.

1.     Renaming Property Fields - They only effect the ADD property screen, when editing properties the original labels are back. There is also no way to tell what label = what in the property template because only the original labels appear. If I change “bedrooms” to Warehouse SqFt for example, it still stays bedrooms on the “edit property” screen and Property template field list. To make matters worse… there is no way to see what the original field was when I go back. Nothing that says bedrooms=warehouse sqft
2.     Properties are shared between pages/modules, why aren’t templates/field labels. This allows a property to have one field label in one place, and a diff field label in another. In addition if I just wanted property X to show up on one page and not on the other, there is no way to exempt from the other search.

Robb,

Hi. Sorry to hear about your frustrations with implementing the Real Estate Module... If you purchased within the last 30 days (and not the source or Enterprise Edition) we can issue you a full refund.

I just wanted to add a few comments to your thread and we will review this thread again before the next release...

1. Renaming Property Fields - This shouldn't be functioning this way, we might need to send you an updated patch/bug fix if it was not included in the correct download. When renaming property fields (per label) it should change for the Add Listing, Edit Listing, Search Grid, etc... The only area it won't change is in the property template because these field labels are static. Actually the field labels should even change in the maintain listing/featured listings area within the Admin Settings area. If its not, you can open a support ticket and I will make sure you get the updated patch.

2. Yes, this is by design but I can see how not all implemtnations would want to utilize the module in this way. You are right.... Since the properties are per portal then the field labels should be as well. Typically however most all of our modules have the ability to have their own settings. The field labels are settings per portal but I can see how these settings are truly a grey area (you have different admin settings, different search grid settings, different property template, so its possible with some implementations you might also want different field labels). There should be a 'Default search field from previous instance' though or the ability to support IPORTABLE which we use in many of our other modules but has not been requested very often with the Real Estate Module.

As far as showing property X etc... You can go into Admin Settings and choose a default search. You can also hide search so that you could set the module to display all 'Houses' within default search or maybe all 'Condos' based in 'Denver, CO' etc... Then you have the option to either show the search or hide it so that you can setup different modules that might highlight specific property types or search paramters.

Please also keep in mind that this module is useful when purchasing source (as we always offer) as many different implementations have specific requirements. We have found that many clients have found the module useful for Homes, Rentals, Pet Friendly Apartments, Boat Rentals, Boat Leases, Classified Ads, and many other types of implemtnations so not all implemtnations are the same and one feature request for a user is often a bug for another...

Thanks for your feedback....

OK, so how do I get the "correct" download.  I purchased the Enterprise version of the product from Snowcovered and downloaded the only version I was provided.

Normally we would have purchased just thesingle portal version but since we already own the enterprise version of some of your other products and found no real issues with them (and use them extensively) I figured this one would be just as good.  I

f I felt the need to purchase the source code and modify it, I would have started from scratch.  The whole idea was to save some time to fill in a "missing link" until our own product and developers could catch up.

As you can see from some of our sites www.ysuhomes.com, www.intracoastalrealty.com we are very versed in programming, we just need something to hold commercial listings for a few months until we can ramp our internal products up to support it.

Hi. I checked the downloads and this should be correct. Please open a support ticket from here though and I can make sure you have the latest build. If there are still remaining features or issues we can also get your feedback and will supply you with a free update down the road.
