I have over 7000 user to import into a clean install of DNN 4.8.1 I have had no luck with using CVS or XLSX file but have gotten a partial import with XLS file. I thought it my have been too many users so I trimmed it down to only 1000 and it quit importing after 590 users.

Any thoughts to what the issue maybe?

In addition, where do I customize the email notification the email noticfication? Is it using the password reminder email template in DNN?

Duane,

HI. If you view the scheduler under Host, Schedule does it spit out any log details? Specifically I would review the last user that was imported to determine what the next users details are different and why it might be blowing up. The module is designed to just move onto the next user but if its not it could be another specific reason. Also, make sure that the user information fit the requirements for a user. For example if you have the password set to require 7 characters and only have 5 characters within the import file its going to skip these users etc...

As far as the email notification. I believe it is using that template but I would actually avoid this feature and just use the Interactive Email Event. This has the ability to have more tokens and you have more layout options.

On the CSV/Excel/XLSX... I would use the XLS or CSV, make sure that your server has the Microsoft Jet Engine drivers running for Excel. You will have to run CSV (recommend with a non standard delimiter such as a # or a | symbol) as the 64 bit version of Windows Server 2003 does not include Jet Drivers to access Excel.

Thanks Chad,

I will look at the users imported to see if I can find what's stopping it. The log files under the scheduler last checked did not give much information.

I did notice that the import is not keeping the original registration date but creating today’s date, is the way to maintain the date they originally joined?

Since I am importing all users with new login names and passwords I can correct any names with any characters that are not allowed like quotes and underscores in to something that will import in the file before I run the import.

I will run some more test and post my results.

Thanks for the input,

Duane

OK I have been working on this since Friday evening at 7 PM. Last night a little after 11 PM I was finally able to get the 7000 members to be imported from a CVS file. To get this to work I had to change the commas delimiter , to ; in the text file, fill in any empty spaces between ;; with the word NULL for it to work.

This morning I installed a clean insatllation of DNN 4.8.2 with a new database and have not been able to repeat the process as I did last night. It bombs out ofter a few hundred names. I have looked on Snowcovered for the 1.5 in hope that it will fix my issues but have not located the download for it.

Why is something that should be so simple being so difficult.

Oh by the way I noticed the time stamp on my post is way off it's now Easter 03/23/2008 2:32 PM

I wish it was 10:33 AM my site has been offline since Friday and I am running out of time to get the new site live.

Interesting when I am not logged in the time is correct after I log in it shows differently.

Ok why can't I repeat the process with a CVS file that worked prior? I purged the users using the purge users tool in Interactive User Import module and now I can not import the users from the same setting and file?

The Schedule history does not show anything, the event view does not either and there are no users imported.

Ok I was able to import all user by not changing a thing, no new username or passwords. However I did change all passwords in the spreedsheet to have over 7 characters like I said all works well except... the users can not retrive their passwords they get the following error "Password could not be sent at this moment. Please try again later or contact the site administrator."

Any thoughts on why this is happening? One thought is  machineKey values were not copied from one install to another that passwords cannot be unencrypted and thus the e-mail fails to send.... If this is the case how can I correct it?

So this is the error they get when they go to the login module and attempt to retrieve their password from the login module?
