I was posting on another thread, but realized that it was dealing with a different issue - so I am starting a new thread so the issues don't get confused.

Here is the thread on this issue so far:

HEITHA:
Hi, I am not using paypal but having the same problem [firing dynamic e-mails]. After doing some testing I realized when the problem happens. When I set the "Email to" to an e-mail address with the same extension as my domain name (ie joe@mydomain.com) it will not fire. If I enter any other e-mail it works. I have a completion event sending an e-mail to the person filling out the form - again if I fill out the form and enter an e-mail address with the same extension as the domain, it will not send the e-mail. I have tested multiple scenarios and the problem is consistent. I know my e-mail account works because I tested that multiple times too.
Any ideas???
Thanks

CHAD:
Heitha - Dynamic Forms uses the same email function calls as the core, sometimes though (depending on your email settings), you will find certain situations where you can email only to and from the same domain, or situations where you can email to and from other domains. In this case I would review your SMTP settings, and test going under Admin, Newsletter. Try and sent an email to yourself there (you can add email address's and not check any of the roles). Make sure to set the from address and the email to address, to the same as what you are testing against. If it works within the CORE area under Admin, Newsletters, then it should work within Dynamic Forms.

HEITHA:
Hi Chad,
Thanks for the reply. I tested the e-mail with the newsletter and it came right through. I went back to the form and filled it out and it still doesn't work. I even went back and re-entered the e-mail exactly as I did for the newsletter to make sure there is no typo.

If I filled our the form again and entered a different e-mail address, and got an auto-responder immediately. But if I put in an e-mail from the same domain, it never comes. Same thing happens when I enter the "email to" as an e-mail with the same domain under completion events. I have tested multiple scenarios and keep having the same results.
I have never seen this problem before.
Any ideas...

CHAD:
What version of Dynamic Forms and what version of DNN?

HEITHA:
DotNetNuke Version: 04.08.02
Dynamic Forms: 02.60.30

Does Chad or anyone else have experience or assistance with this?

Thanks!

Maybe a long shot but this could happen if you for example use a different smtp gw/relay then your regular email server but use the same domain name for both. Then the SMTP relay thinks it is author for the domain and does not forward them.

So all emails to other domains is forwarded but emails to the domain the relay thinks it is master for is not forward.

Thanks for your idea

What do you mean by "use a different smtp gw/relay then your regular email server "? Right now the settings are set to "localhost". That's how we have it set for other sites and have not seen this problem before. Although before we used earlier versions of dynamic forms.

Well if it worked before then maybe it is something else.

But check your smtp drop directory default is “C:\Inetpub\mailroot\Drop” if the emails are there, the smtp server thinks it is the master for the domain and have not forwarded them.

Just an idea

Hmm again not necessary that emails ends up in the drop directory sorry,

Check the “C:\Inetpub\mailroot\Badmail” instead for clues and also the smtp log.

Ok - I changed my host e-mail in the admin to an e-mail with the same extension as the site and now it seems to work - wierd!

OK - I thought it was working. But something weird is still going on with triggering e-mails. It seems to be random. When I fill out the form it may or may not send the e-mail. When I go to the site, fill it out I don't get any emails (auto responder or as the admin), then I fill it out again and get emails, it's almost like it needs to warm up and won't send until the 2nd or 3rd time it's filled out. All the results are recorded in the form results, but e-mail notifications are not always sent. I have done dozens of tests and there seems to be no order to when it happens - it's driving me crazy!!!

Are there any errors in the event log (under Admin, Event Viewer?). Are there any other differences from when it works and when it doesn't? For example, does it work when you are signed in but then not when you are signed out? Or does it work when you are logged in as a specific user or anything?
