I am using dynamic registration 3.10.22 and have a registration screen that I allow users to go back to and change their preferrences.  I do NOT show the user name or password on updates.  If I show the password on updates, it makes them enter their password and verify everytime they update their account settings.

I need to know how I can make it so users can change their password, without having to re-enter a password.

Thanks,

Kyle

Hi. Well the module require a 'password' and 'confirm password', however if these fields are on a registration form (and visible), they are blank, and the user doesn't have to update them. Dynamic Registration automatically forces these fields to be required upon initial registration (and also creates a compare validator for you automatically etc...). Then, when the user navigates back to the page they are rendered but blank. The user only needs to re-enter their password again if they want to change it, otherwise they should be able to update their password (with blanks in the textbox) and it shouldn't change their password. We will continue to research options for how this should work or maybe features such as 'Show **** characters, or don't require a compare password' but for now this is how it works.

Any feedback?

Hi. Well... You might hold up... the 3.2 release is now fully completed and will be released on Monday. Any users who purchased within the last 30 days will receive the update for free (or users who have purchase the collection package in the last year). Other purchases should receive 70% off per upgrade etc...

MANY new features in 3.2, I will have several posts over the next week that will cover the enhancements, how-to's, questions, etc... We are also going to be working on demonstrations for common implementation questions (such as multi page registration forms, PayPal Integration (a much requested and new feature in 3.2 with full IPN integrated with Dynamic Completion Events), and other examples such as how to integrate an image field with Dynamic User Directory etc....

Stay tuned! Also, all features are on Beta Springs at this time if you want to check it out (login as host/dnnhost).

If I go to the DNN Core integration, and then uncheck the show password field under advanced options, the password and verify password show up on the registration/update page.

When I click submit, it gives me an error saying that verify password is required. That is what I am trying to eliminate.

Is there a way to create a separate page to change the password so the user doesn't have to retype it?

Kyle,

Hi. I think this should have been covered in another posted regarding the password/confirm password.

The basics are this (some of this is related to thie history of the module, this might be changed down he road but this is how its designed now):

The module automatically adds a required field validator and a compare validator for the password and confirm passsword WHEN the user is unauthenticated. So basically, these specific fields work differently then other fields and you shoudl not have to use your own validator. If you are adding your own validator then you can remove it and it should function as you need it (require initially, and after registration its not require and can be left blank).

Does this help?
