Hi everyone... I wanted to write a quick post related to an issue we recently discovered with both Dynamic Registration and Dynamic Forms. The issue will cause the form to not continue and you will see a &ErrorMessage in the URL)

This issue affects:

  • Users using Dynamic Forms or Dynamic Registration
  • w/ a CAPTCHA field present on the form
  • w/ a question event present on the form that either hides other questions or un-hides other questions

We recently discovered this issue  and there have been several support requests/forum posts that have come up related to this issue over the past two week.

We have spent the last week researching the issue and have narrowed it down to when a CAPTCHA field is present and a question event is present that hides or unhides fields on the form. If you are running into this problem the temporary work-around is to either delete the CAPTCHA field or delete the question event. We have researched other temporary solutions without any luck. The error comes from the fact that the CAPTCHA control (the standard DotNetNuke CAPTCHA control) is having problems maintaining its viewstate while the form elements are dynamically being hidden or un-hidden.

What we are doing:

We are working on implementing another 3rd party, royalty-free  CAPTCHA control. We should have this implemented within the next 2-3 weeks for both Dynamic Registration and Dynamic Forms.  Once implemented, we will make an announcement and release a patch/hot fix. With the new CAPTCHA field, you will be able to select either the standard DNN CAPTCHA field or the advanced CAPTCHA field. If you choose the advanced you will have many other options such as ability to have a 'refresh' icon, enable a 'sound' icon that will read off the numbers/letters, and many other options.

Thanks for your understanding and patience while we work to resolve this issue.

Hi guys...

We are still working on the details of this issue, at the current time we are implementing an option for an 'Advanced CAPTCHA' field type. This will require a change to your web.config if you end up wanting to implement it, but will provide some very powerful CAPTCHA features.

Currently this is implemented on www.datasprings.com if you click on 'Register' to get a preview of whats coming.

This enhancement will be rolled out within the coming weeks and from our testing also fixes the issue addressed in this thread.

One other quick note - There has been a limitation both in Dynamic Registration and Dynamic Forms where you cannot set a default value once it has been set for a radio button, and you also cannot have a blank default value for a dropdownlist field. The next two minor releases of both Dynamic Registration and Dynamic Forms will also have enhancements to allow for this.
