I just purcahsed module and installed. However, when I try to import an excel file I get following error:
Error: Interactive User Import is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DataSprings.DNN.Modules.UserImport.UserImport.LoadImportFile() --- End of inner exception stack trace ---
ANy ideas as to what is wrong?

I'm also a fairly new user of DataSprings modules, but getting familiar with them quickly. I use XLS as my datasource for imports, currently running DNN 4.8. Top row has field names I want to map to DNN core, including DisplayName, UserName, Email, FirstName, LastName, Password, and several other custom fields I've added to the User Profile. After reading about some issues with special characters not importing correctly, I decided to play it safe and clean out unnecessary characters and check my data quality against DNN required fields. There are other tips in the forum you need to read too, such as setting the site settings to Public if you want to assign a role, etc. More basic info might help others help you...What version of DNN? How far did you progress with the import before you hit this error? Except for a few things I can work around, this module is working very well for my needs. |

We had another user reporting this as well. You might try saving in Excel 2003 format or as a CSV file. Were you able to get this working?

FYI, I've had great results with the XLS 2003 format. I use both Office 2003 and Office 2007, saved as XLS 2003. I used formulas to create some of the values to be imported, but I always copy and Paste Special as Values to a clean sheet. I use Find/Replace to remove any unwanted characters that might have gotten in from the database export. During an early test of the module, I left a few rows in with missing required DNN fields such as like Email. That will cause failure. So will having duplicate UserNames in the spreadsheet. The import History log in the DNN Scheduler will show any rows that failed. I used Excel to create all the Core and Extended Profile fields (except UserId and I don't map Region). Timezone and PreferredLocale probably should be mapped early on. I didn't and had to update these later.
If your imported users are all from the same area, you can enter a sample and see how DNN actually stores these fields. For example, in the EST part of US, the actual code is -300. The USA English PreferredLocale is stored as en-US.
Starting with clean, complete data in Excel is very important for this module. It did not pick up on defaults I set in DNN, so populating everything and mapping correctly does the trick. |

I just bough the Enterprise version of Interactive User Import with the source code. I'm running DNN v. 4.7 and I get the same error when trying to import any file. The export program also does not work as expected, since it exports the data in the wrong fields. I then tryed to install the source code to debug it, but I get an error that the file Settings.ascx is missing from the .ZIP file. Sorry, I'm very new to DNN and to dataspring modules and I may have done something incorrect. Can anyone out there help me with this? Is there a way to get support under the enterprise licensing? Thank you in advance, Osmany.

Hmmm... Go ahead and open a support ticket for this issue so we can make sure you are running on the latest release for PA and source and any other variables such as DNN environment and so forth.
Something big to note... We have recently discovered that Excel files are not working on any server running 64 Bit. The import doesn't work because 64 bit servers of 2003 do not have their own Microsoft Jet Engine ODBC drivers. There are a lot of threads out there related to this. We are researching what we can do (possibling compiling the application in 32 bit mode only)
As a work around, if you are running on a 64 bit operating system you should be able to go into Excel and Export the file to a Comma Seperate File (CSV file). Now, obviouslly this will not work as a solution because users might have a comma in their data so... We saw this post earlier and are suggesting it as a solution for exporting with another delimiter (such as maybe three ### or maybe a | or something similar).
Instructions:
Your delimiter depends on Windows setting. The quickest way is to save the file as a CSV file.
To change the default on your PC to a pipe rather than a comma bring up your default options window by clicking Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Regional Settings.
Click the "Number" tab and in the "List Separator" field, replace the current default separator with the one you want to use (let's say a pipe symbol | ).
Click "OK" to save the change and close the window. You can now save Excel files as pipe delimited files by simply doing the following in Excel:
Open your excel impot file.
Click File => Save As on the menu bar.
In the "File Type" drop down, select "CSV (comma separated values) *.csv".
