I am working on a project (that I need to get done this weekend - so I'm really hoping Chad is around this weekend -please, please, please) that I need to have a way for the user to multi-select options, and then be put in roles based on their selections. I thought that either a multi-select list box or a checkbox group would work just fine for this, except that when I try to add registration completion events for the field, the field doesn't show as an option in the Dynamic Field field.

I've looked at the documentation, and I'm not seeing anything that says I can't use ListBoxes or CheckBox Groups as fields in a registration completion event. What is going on?

Anne,

Hi. Yes unfortunatly Dynamic Events/Question Events cannot be based on either checkbox groups or listbox fields. Some of this comes down to the design of how these should be implemented (these two fields allow for multi-select items, so do you want the event to fire only if they select the specified values such as option two and option three on the listbox, or do you want it to fire if they select either option two or option three etc...). Everyones use-case scnerio for what they would want multi-selection fields to do for events so we are still working on the design for these fields types and how they will function to benefit everyone the most. These are really the only fields that have this issue though, you might consider using multiple checkbox's fields and maybe using a dropdownlist or radio button group for the listbox field.

I see what you mean that figuring out what the different selections mean COULD be complicated, but then again, I would think that most of the time, checkboxes and multi-select list boxes would be used as independent choices - do this if option1 is checked, do this if option 2 is checked, independent of each other. Wouldn't really be any different from the way the combo box is handled, except that the user may have more rules applied.

Not having this is a big problem for me, and I am kind of miffed that it wasn't documented anywhere. I specifically checked for this before I purchased the software, and since nothing in the documentation indicated it couldn't be done, it appeared that I would be able to do that. Now I've told clients I can do it, and I'm up a creek.

Does the enterprise edition come with source code? And would the basic use-case, as above, be a difficult code change?

Yeah, I think having the feature alone would be a nice start for 'Any checkbox item checked' but again each implementation is different and for many they would want conditionally if both optin A and B are checked etc... We have many other clients needing functionality for 'Anything but a... checked' as well. Just trying to make sure the design was right when we do add the feature. We are right in the middle of development fpr the 3.0 release. I will review this again and see if its possible to add it in there, we are already adding the feature to allow multiple fields to be affected by question events as they are in Dynamic Forms now and a few other features in this area. The Enterprise Edition does include full source code however I wouldn't suggest that its a quick and easy enhancement to add, mutli select dynamic fields work a bit differently then the single selection fields within the code etc...

Anne,

Have you already rolled this out to your clients? I ask because in the 3.0 release you will be able to use Question Events with check box lists (mulit selection) and listbox (multi selection) fields. Ill have to check with completion events but I for sure know you can now with question events.

Oh good - I was just getting ready to come ask about this again. No, I haven't deployed yet, but I don't think I'll be able to wait until the end of July to deploy. I figured out a way to get around the issue with radio buttons, as you suggested, although that situation isn't ideal. Have you verified yet that they will work with Completion Events, and not just Question Events?

And a hearty 'Hurrah' for the ability to clone questions in 3.0.

Yes, I did confirm this is working in the latest 3.0 beta we are testing against.

Each completion event can be setup based on one of the multi select options. So for example you have a checkboxlist with three checkbox items you could create three seperate events based on each of the values but at this time you couldn't fire an event if options a and options b were checked etc... In the case of this it would fire off events for 'a' being checked and 'b' being checked. I think this covers 90% of the scenerio's.
