Hi everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know that Dynamic Registration 3.0 is well underway. The module has been in development over the last several months and will be ready for beta by the end of June. We hope to have the full release out by the end of July.

Here are a few new features to check out in the upcoming release:

  • In-Line Editing - You will now be able to maintain the registration header/footer, and the questions label and so forth with in-line editing. This means that you will be able to click on the label and change the label directly on the user-facing page without having to go into the administration area (similar with out the DotNetNuke text module works in 4.5.3).
  • Question Events Enhancement - You will now be able to specify multiple affected questions for question events. For example, this means that if you specified that checking a box for a checkbox field fires the event you could have it hide maybe 10 other fields (or show 10 other fields etc...). Previously you could only specify one affected field for question events
  • New Javascript/AJAX features. Now when setting up a field label if you tab off of the label it will automatically default the short field name and help text for you.
  • Auto set sort order for new questions
  • Ability to clone questions
  • Edit button displayed next to each field on the user-facing registration page. This will allow you to edit fields faster without having as many postbacks
  • Ability to over-ride label/field sytlesheet classes per field. This would allow you for example to have just one particular field label with was using a styleclass such as normalred even when all of the others were normalbold etc...
  • Checkbox field types - now display text to the left or right of checkbox fields.
  • Optionally hide field labels per field
  • Support for Check Box Groups and Radio Button fields types to now set the number per row
  • Ability to change module title to a different title when the user is updating their registration. For example maybe your module title is 'Register'. You will now be able to specify a new title when the user is already signed in such as 'Update Registration' etc...
  • Ability to Hide Password Fields for registration updates
  • Ability to hide userID field field for registration updates. Previously all field types could be hidden but the password/userid fields. Now that these can be hidden you can setup multiple profile pages throughout your portal where the user could maintain different profile pages if you wished.
  • New feature for Dynamic Role Events. Now you can specify the number of days for the role to expire.
  • When managing users the module would previously redirect to the home page after updating a users registration. New enhancements have been added to redirect the user back to the manage users page
  • New field types for Captcha and Rich Text Editor
  • Now link all field types to DNN Core Field types. Previously you could not link fields such as checkbox field types
  •  Now specify security for who has access to manage users and manage questions (for users who do not have edit permissions to module)
  • New sytlesheet classes for all table, table rows and table cells within the module.

A few more coming up but that highlights some of whats ahead. We will be posting updates in the next several weeks regarding the final release dates.

Chad,

For the following feature...

Ability to change module title to a different title when the user is updating their registration. For example maybe your module title is 'Register'. You will now be able to specify a new title when the user is already signed in such as 'Update Registration' etc...

will this also include the ability to change the Module Icon?

Thanks!

Brian

Sounds great Chad - I've been pouring over the datasprings manuals wrapping my head around things before jumping in with both feet. I think I will wait until the 3.0 release.

There was some discussion in the forums around calculated fields being available. Is this something that is being addressed in 3.x releases? Going through the current manuals there are probably ways around it using sql events but it would be nice if there was an easier way.

Like others, I see this as an 'almost' tool for event registration and hoping to be eventually be able to use it as such.

Cheers

Brian - Well currently its just setup to allow you to change the module title. Ill look into the ability to change the icon as well though, shouldn't be too difficult to add. If it doesn't make the 3.0 release it will be very shortly after. We are just finishing up development and several users already have the first beta.

George - Yes right now the easiest way will still be the ability to use SQL events and so forth. We have not yet added calculated field as a question event although it is on the list. With 3.0 you can now use a few fields that did not allow for question events before though such as Checkbox Lists and multi-select listbox's.

Ummm... Thats it for now, thanks for everyones feedback.

Hi guys. Dynamic Registration 3.0 beta seems to be going very well. Aleksandar will be getting started on documentation probably early next week and we will also put up a copy on the www.betasprings.com site (as soon as we upgrade it to 4.5.x). We have a few clients running on the beta now and are monitoring their implementations, so far so good and we are getting some very positive feedback. After working in some use-case example's this last week we implemented a few additional enhancements for AJAX/Javascript and client side code that really improve the modules usability (both as a user an administrator). A few examples...

  • Now when you are adding or updating a dynamic field and you change the sort order client side javascript code will let you know where it will fall into place within the form. This way you never have to save a field and then later go change the sort order
  • Now longer field names are only added to the question dropdownlist (within manage questions) as 'Field Name...' once they are a certain number of characters
  • Changed example text to allow for larger examples. In the future we will end up allow you to do all types of javascript tooltips and quick pop ups when a user tabs on/off a field etc
  • A few new validation enhancements. Now if the user errors on a required field it can either throw them to the top of the form, the bottom, set the focus on the first field that errors, etc... Additionally (and this is great!) you can specify a stylesheet class for fields that have thrown the validation error. So you could potentially change the stylesheet class to have a red background and it would highlight the fields that the user missed with the red background etc...

More to come, full release will be out in July. No exact dates yet because we will await additional beta testing but ill keep everyone posted.

Also, the download for the beta was added under the Beta Testing forum. If you are a Data Springs Collection client and are not already part of the beta forum (and would like to be) please contact us.

Thanks,

Chad

Update...

Aleksandar is currently working on documentation, we are reviewing several production sites currently running the beta and so far things are going pretty good. We have upgraded www.betasprings.com to 4.5.3 and have added the module there as well. You can login as host/dnnhost to check out some of the new features on their way.

I didn't realize you were releasing a new version so soon. Considering I just bought it, what will happen to the upgrade price?

Randy,

Hi. With all module releases you will receive a free upgrade within the 30 days of purchase. After that all releases typically include an 80% to 90% discount based on the previous release. So for example, if you purchase Dynamic Registration 2.4 and later wanted to upgrade to 3.0 you would receive 90% off the purchase price. New releases are typically released quarterly but it depends on the module (some have more frequent releases than others).

We've been testing Version 3.0 and are confident enough to use it in a new website launch. We'll post here once we launch so you can see how we are using it. Thanks Chad! Tom Wood www.masterytv.com

We are using 3.0 beta and we didn't come across any problem yet. There are few minor issues:

1. Group Name/Label: How to add Group Name (like Fieldset tag) for a set of fields in a regsitration form ? Suppose I want to place

Address

(-) at top of unit, city, postal code fields and

Other Information

at top of Avatar, Locale etc ? So we need a different set of Header html element for a different group of fields.

2. How to increase the width size of an Image / File Upload type fields ? All the fields in regsitaion form works except Image / File Upload fields.

Any idea when 3.0 will be released. I have been waiting on features slated for 3.0 before I do some rework on our site. My management is getting impatient.

Thanks

Hi. 3.0 will be released by the end of the week. We were working on finishing documentation (WOW, now 124 pages!). I am attaching the documentation for anyone to review before final release but basically we are looking at releasing 3.0 on 7/26.

Is the functionality we discussed here , for allowing checkboxes in Registration completion events, included in 3.0? I don't see it listed, but you said it would be.

Anne - Although not specifically mentioned here, yes, you can not create question events based on checkbox group fields and listbox fields, just as discussed in that thread.

Benjamin - Hi, this was discovered today and we updated the download on Snowcovered. You can download the module again and just install on top of the current release. I believe its 3.01.00.

Thanks.

Chad,

I think I will need 3.01.00 as well.  I'm using completion events based upon a dynamic field.  You had just provided me access to 3.00.00 via a snowcovered help ticket.  How can I get access to this hotfix?

Thanks!

Brian

Hi Chad,
After our discussion on snowcovered I think you suggested that I post my feature request in the forum:

" the possibility of encrypting/decrypting (having a checkbox under advanced field settings) for some fields. I think that would be a nice enhancement request. "

Not sure if this is the right place but seems people are putting some here.
