ok, I love the product, but the documentation is severely lacking on Completion Events. There's not even a section called Completion Events, and its a main level tab!

I want a registration page to register the user as a "registered user" not a subscriber. (that's a separate role.)

Under Registration Completion Events, I created a new event, and checked:

  • Event Type: Dotnetnuke Role
  • Fire Event On: Only Initial Registration
  • Dynamic Field: Any Field Response
  • DNN Role: Registered Users.

When I go to register a new user, it registers them as a registered user AND a subscriber.

Please help. Running DNN 4.08.04.

Hi Doug,

It's such a thrill to hear how our customers love our products.  Thank you!

Now, is this a straight registration or are you using a payment gateway?

For a straight registration, the user is given a 'registered ' role once it completes.  There is no need to create a completion event for this.

Do you have another completion event to give the subscriber role at initial registration also?

Candace

P.S.  We appreciate your comment regarding documentation.  It helps us determine where we can improve.  Thanks again.

we are not using a payment gateway. (not yet). When we did it without a completion event, the same result occurred. registered user AND subscriber.

Hmmm....ok,  please go to Admin, Security Roles and check  the subscriber role.  Make sure auto-assignment is unchecked in settings.

I think this should do it.

oh God bless you. That did it.

Hi guys... I just wanted to follow up on this as Aleksandar does spend a good deal of time on each section of the user guides and I wanted to make sure if someone else was looking for completion events documentation where to find this. Doug, you might be able to let us know what you searched for as well when you were looking for it so we update a specific section? I know it can be frustrating when you don't want to have to dig around to find what you need!

Either way completion events are covered (about 10 pages actually) in the Dynamic Registration User Guide. These cover all of the major completion events starting on section 9.11 (page 120 of the current user guide) and ending on section 9.12.6 (page 130)

You can check out the Dynamic Registration User Guide here.

Thanks,

Chad

Chad,

actually, no. Section 9.1, beginning on page 88 of the Dynamic Registration Guide, (PDF) addresses Managing General Settings. 9.2 goes into Managing Questions. There seems to be something missing in between.

To answer your question, I checked the table of contents in the PDF file, looking for Completion Events (as it is a major tab in the application). Didn't find it, so proceeded to do full text searches on the PDF and this Product Forum on the following terms:

  • user role
  • security role
  • completion events

and then some additional variants of those phrases I don't recall.

Hope this helps. I would add that your documentation far exceeds that of many other DNN module developers. Also, the immediate response I received on this forum was even better.

Hi. Yes 9.1 is on 88 but I was actually referring to 9.11 (nine dot eleven)

Thanks for your feedback!
