Me again,

We were just setting up previous emails on the site.

We examined the DB structure and created an import to grab all the newsletters from their previous list manager and successfully import all the newsletters.

However, when deciding if they were going to be displayed on the user's previous newsletter module, we found out that there is no field in the db to associate a previous newslettter with a list.

Therefore, if we include a newsletter on the previous newsletter list, it will appear to anyone in that portal who can see an instance of the previous newletter module.

Since we have three newsletters for this client, we only want to show the appropriate newsletter to the group it was intended.  If we could select the newletter category on the previous newsletter module, it would only display those newsletters.  Of course,  we would display that instance of the module to those members who are part of that group.

Let us know if we are just misunderstanding the use of the moduel and there is already a way to do this.

Thanks again,

Chad

Robert,

Hi. Yes this is actually be design in the current release. Although the integration exists with Dynamic Registration to allow users to opt in/out from the DotNetNuke site based on their registration information the module also works seperate from the users registration/ever signing in. For example the user doesn't have to sign into DNN to opt in and or/manage their subscription. Because of this we don't yet know the users email address.

In your implementation it sounds like the user already has to be signed in before they can see the previous newsletters is this correct? If so I can see that it would be nice to add an enhancement within the previous newsletters for the module to only show previous newsletters that are tied to the users email address /opt in email system. This would still be an optional feature but one that would be very useful. Another option would be to allow you to select previous newsletters only from certain categories. Then you could add the module to multiple instances and setup the security to only show certain instances for certain security roles etc... This might be easier to implement on the opt in email side and provide for more flexibility, what do you think?

hi Chad,

Actually all three newsletters do not require reigstration and login yet. One newsletter is general news that anyone can opt into. The other two are for two other categories of users that will require login to see protected content.

The customer sends out emails to the two groups and the general newsletter to both. As they sign up at the site, they are approved by the admin and granted access to a particular role. At that time, they should get to see a Previous Newsletter module that contains only all the old newsletters that they received. But we want it tied to the opt-in list, not necessarily to the role. We will control the access to the module by their role, but they should only see the newsletters if they are a current subsciber to that list (could be more than one list). This way, new subscibers get to see old content that they missed.

I do like the suggestion to select previous from certain categories. You are absolutely right that it would be easier to implement and be more flexible.

Thanks,

Bob
