I have just installed V3.0 (on DNN V4.8.2) and am having significant problems with field types that access the fckEditor.

It could be a bug, or it may be that I am trying to do something that Dynamic Forms is not capable of doing, but all is far from well. This is what is happening.

On starting to build my first page I added a text/html field and set the Style Sheet to ‘Use Standard DotNetNuke Style Sheet’.  In my case I am using my ‘skin.css’ as the dominant css and it is being pulled into the fckEditor via ‘fckstyles.xml’.

This setup works in all the other fckeditor modules on my site.  It also returns the available classes to the style combo-box on the fckEditor modules in DynamicForms (eg in the text/html, and text box (header/footer sections).  Everything looked OK and initially it worked.

For instance I could create a new text/html field, save it and modify it.  I could create other text/html fields and then modify them.  I could continue to use fckeditor on other pages without problems.

Then the problem kicked in. With me following the same procedure, the fckEditor decided to no longer allow an Update.  I can make changes in the fckEditor (and see the result applied in the editor) but on clk Update Field or Update Field/Exit my page will return without the changes being saved.  On going back into edit the changes are gone.

This result is the same inside the Header or Footer of a Text field as well. Changes are not saved.  However, this time, the required changes are retained in the editor. It is just that they are not being returned to the parent module.

By the way, all that I am putting in the text/html field is a heading (eg Step 1: Arrival) applying CSS to it (HeadingBox1) and putting a Horizontal Rule beneath it.

Further, whereas I can still create new text/html fields, I can’t change them.  S with the long-standing ones, I can make changes to them in the editor with the CSS Style, by using html or by using the other combos.  All looks well; I can see the changes being made, but on Update they are not returned (on re-entering Edit they are no longer present.)

What I can do is: change and save details by using the hovering toolbar (?): hover over a text/html label, select Edit, make a change, save. All is well. But, of course, very limited in what can be done)

What I have tried:

  • Clearing the cache and refreshing – no good
  • doing it over and over again.  Lot’s of frustration and lost work. No good.
  • exported and then imported a failing module – no good.
  • Tried new pages and new modules – no good
  • Uninstalled and then reinstalled the complete Dynamic Forms Module.

I am now out of ideas.

So back to my first point.  Have I caused a problem by using the skin.css?  Is this a bug?  Or am I doing something wrong?

I have spent 30 hours on this over the last two days and I would really appreciate some advice.

Many thanks in advance, Gordon

PS There is another problem – it may be related. Changes to the names in the Combo Box won’t save. I can add names, I can delete names, but changes that I make to the names are not saved.  (This is not  a big issue. The work-around is to delete the one to be changed, then recreate it with the corrections.)

This is  not working.  There is certainly something wrong somewhere.

Since my last post I blew away everything that I had done and went back to a complete pre-Dynamic Forms backup  of my site (html plus SQL).

Whereas previously I did an unistall and then a reinstall of DF, this time it was another clean install. If I had messed anything  up before it could not have carried over.

Next I created a completely new page and added a DF module (there are no other modules on it) .

I added a couple of text/html headings. To keep things simple I stayed clear of any CSS and simply formatted with drop-down font and colour changes. To test things I even made some changes. So far, so good.

On a roll now, I successfully added a text field, and then went back to add a footer.  My luck had run out. The footer didn't update/save. The data was lost. I tried again. No good.  I tried with other text fields. No good. Nothing saving.

I then tried to change each of my text/html headings. No good - couldn't update/save them.

While I was on a losing streak, I created a two-entry combo box and then tried to make a change. The problem I described in my previous post remains.

So, at this stage, DF is unusable.  I can't get past first base.

I know that DF isa great product, and perhaps there is noone else having these problems.  I would certainly appreciate any advice on what is wrong with my application.

Regards, Gordon

I am more convinced that this is a bug.

After doing yet another clean DF install I slowly crept forward, with a number of exports/backups of  what I wasdoing.

I now know that the wheels will fall off when I go into General Settings and touch anything (at  least) to do with:

  • Align Question Labels,
  • Label Cell Width, and
  • Align Link Buttons

If I don't touch any of these options, none of the problems I have described in my previous posts occur.   All's well.  Touch anything as simple as 'Align Question Labels - right' and bang; the end!

I am confident that I am not pressing the wrong buttons;  perhaps my DNN/DF configuration has a problem; or, as I am more convinced there is a bug. What do you think?

It's been a long haul on this one. I think I need to step out and stem the bleeding of my wrists and then see if I can relocate my family.

Any ideas please?

Gordon

Yes, the fckEditor cannot save in the new release of DF 3.0 if you have Ajax turned on. Please take a look at this post for DF 3.0 known issues. -- David

Many thanks David,

That did the trick.   Two boxes ticked and I 'm up and running again.

And what a lesson I've learned!!!  Next time: read 'da know issues.

I look forward to progressing with Dynamic Forms and learning a lot more about what is shaping up to be a great product.

Kind regards,

Gordon

Hi,

The workaround for the known issue at the core of the above problem is to tick "Disable Form AJAX" and "Disable AJAX within Module Configuration". The objective, of course would be to be able to have these boxes unticked.

For what it is worth, and hopefully to help you sort out the bug, I have noticed that leaving the latter unticked will stop any New Date Field working. On click "Select Date" nothing. (Everything is fine with both ticked or only the former ticked.)

Great product, and I am finding it even better as I'm getting to know it.

Many thanks,
Gordon

Hi Gordon,

So glad to hear that you're enjoying Dynamic Forms 3.0! We are working to find better ways to work with AJAX and will release tips and patches as they become available. Thanks for your feedback!
