A client recently ran into some Dynamic Forms issues and after finding a solution I thought it would be helpful to post within the forums. At this time this is the only instance/client we have had run into this but since hes running on IIS 7 I thought there might be a few other instances down the road.

First the symptoms... Apparently for some reason on his installation of DNN and Dynamic Forms everytime it would go into 'Update Settings' within the manage questions the system would completely lock up or just time out. What was weird is that after research we discovered that the very last setting before the page redirects WAS being saved.. So we knew that it wasn't a specific line of code, the next line of code was used to redirect the user back to the page (and its the same line thats used throughout many other pages/areas so we knew it wouldn't be causing a problem).

So.... He discovered after some additional testing that he needed to turn on 32 bit  applications on the protal site.

I found a link related to this here to enable 32 bit applications on IIS 6.

And also he sent a screenshot which I am attaching as well. If anyone else runs into this you might try checking into this setting.

Thanks,

Chad

I confirm that this problem occours when running IIS7 on Windows Web Server 2008 64-bit edition and that the "fix" solves the problem.

But Chad, I'm wondering: I haven't experienced this problem in any other modules or in the DNN core. Maybe the problem is caused by one of your DLL's? In that case, I would prefer that the problem were fixed where it originates from, rather than "fighting the symptom" by disabling the 64 bit capability...

Allan,

Hi. We will continue to review and test this. So far, this is the 2nd occurance that we have run into with the problem. Both of these modules are build in VS2005 and are set to build for 'Any CPU' which should mean both 32 bit and 64 bit. We are also running a 64 bit operating system for datasprings.com but are not running Windows Web Server 2008 or IIS7 so I am not sure if its the combination of these, a setting within the compiling setup, or what...

I am attaching a screenshot of the compiler settings, if anyone has any ideas what might be causing this or if anyone else is running into this issue please let us know within this thread.

Also, a quick google search for that setting 'Enable 32-bit applications' does bring up many threads related to this... But none I saw specifically for what setting is causing it. It might be that AnyCPU needs to be changed to x64 but we would have to test this.

Hi Chad

Any news about the 64-bit compatibility? I noticed that Opt in mail 4.0 comes in two versions: 32bit and 64bit. Maybe you identified the problem?

If not, which OptIn-package should I install, when I've changed the setting to "'Enable 32-bit applications"?

Hi Allan,

I am still not sure why this was / is happening with Dynamic Forms. We are still running on a 64 bit IIS / Server installation for Data Springs without a problem but I don't think we are currently running IIS which was what was happening in this thread.

Opt In Email should be fine and if you checked that box I would install the 32 bit version. These are actually the exact same release's except for a single file (DLL) that handles all of the bouncebacks. This is a 3rd party component that is setup for only 32 bit or only 64 bit so if you install the wrong edition you just need to replace this file called ChilkatDotNet2.dll.
