Hello,

I started using dyanmic Registration recently and I have a couple of question:

I want a page with three links/buttons:

  1. Create new user
  2. Manage existing users
  3. Edit profile

the first link/button redirects to a dynamic Registration module where a new user can be entered. In our environment new users are added using a dedicated user account. In other words registratration is set to none for our portal.

The second link redirects to the manage users screen from Dynamic Registrations. I know I can do that using a hyperlink as described in on of the older postings, but perhaps there is another way. Secondly, when i use the manage users page the skin is set back to DNN instead of our own skin. Is it possible to use the manage users screen with our own skin?

The last link redirects to the page (Dynamic Registration) where a user can set or change certain properties (for instance change password). I think this is done by linking this page to the Users page in the Admin settings for the portal.

Can someone set me on the right track?

Arjan,

Hi. Let me see if I can answer some of your questions... Or at least get some more information to provide you some resources or tips.

One way to handle this might be to include links to Edit Profile and Create New Users/Manage Existing Users within a field (near the top) of the form. This can be almost like using the Header/Footer of the form, however with a field type of Text/HTML you can also use the feature to 'hide fields by role' and hide that field from standard users when they go into manage their account. This way you can have all of those links on the same registration page and you don't have to setup multiple pages to handle this.

As far as the manage users page skin... Under Admin, Site Settings, what is the portal and admin skins set to within this area? Additionally, are these settings changed at all on the 'Page Settings' or 'Module Settings' area? It should be using the skin and container selected in these areas.

As far as the last link, yes you can link the registration page to under Admin, Site Settings. Although if you went with my suggestion you could link just one page there and then setup that text/html field to be 'Hidden by role' for standard registered users and only Admins would see the role etc... With this method you wouldn't have to create seperate registration pages.

One last thing to think about (going along with the same suggestion though), sometimes its useful to keep on page as the 'Registration Page' when the user clicks Register or to Update Profile, however within that page you can setup security for either multiple instances of Dynamic Registration or other modules. For example the first time the user goes to the page there could be a text/html module on the page where security is set to only be visible to unauthenticated users, it might tell them they they need to be signed in before registration is private or not allowed. Then, you could setup security for the registration module or other text/HTML modules. You could setup a text/html module that is viewable to only 'Security Role who can add dedicated user accounts' which includes the link to add and manage existing users. This way standard users wouldn't see it when they went to manage their profile, but at the same time you are not having to create all types of different pages and modules throughout the system.

Hope this provides some good tips!
