Guess what! Dynamic Forms 3.0 will be released soon and I wanted to update everyone with some of the new upcoming features. As with all future beta releases you can start to fully test the module on www.betasprings.com.

    • New Gridview Field Type. The gridview field type is GREAT for surveys and is very simple to setup, you can also have full control over the look and feel as it uses multiple stylesheet classes which some samples to get you started. The gridview field type can optionally use radio buttons, allowing the user to only select a single option or check box's which will allow the user to select multiple options. You can demo the gridview field here.
    • New AJAX Rating field type. This field type can allow you to select a maximum rating, the default rating, and other options such as horizontal/vertical display and if the ratings should be left to right or right to left etc... You can also select multiple stylesheet options for the rating field including multiple colors for the selected rating, when you hover over the other ratings etc... You can demo the rating field here.
    • New Completion Event Type to create PDF's. You will have full control over the PDF content template (similar to how you can plug and play with $(tokens) for email events and you can include images and other HTML etc...). There are also extended features to setup a PDF header/footer/summary and display page numbers. PDF's can be created and saved as files and also later referenced in email events or attached to an email.   You can demo the PDF completion event here.
    • New ability to create child portals. Based on using certain short field names you will be able to generate child portals and allow the user currently submitting the form the ability to be the administrator of that child portal.
    • Multiple new enhancements have now been added in the view results area.  This includes:
      • Ability to search/filter results
      • Ability to view the results in the standard format and also create a customized template to display the results in
      • Ability to include a $(ViewLink) within email and other completion events allowing the user to view the results within the module in either the standard or customized template
      • A new 'Create Copy From' which will allow you to start filling out a new form based on the responses within the forms results
    • AJAX Enhancements can now optionally be enabled for all page / form interaction such as question events (MAJOR performance enhancement) and also when managing fields within the administration area.
    • New 'Quick Stats' feature - A new info icon can appear next to each field which will display the fields short field name and other enabled features for the field such as if its required or any of the advanced field options you might want to know about without having to go and edit the field directly.
    • New 'Hidden Field Quick Menu'. <!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 unctuationKerning /> false false false oNotPromoteQF /> EN-US X-NONE X-NONE ontGrowAutofit /> ontVertAlignCellWithSp /> ontBreakConstrainedForcedTables /> ontVertAlignInTxbx /> MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-1610611985 1107304683 0 0 159 0;} @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-1610611985 1073750139 0 0 159 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} span.EmailStyle15 {mso-style-type:personal; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-unhide:no; mso-ansi-font-size:11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi; color:windowtext;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.0in 1.0in 1.0in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> <!--[if gte mso 10]> Previously you could only manage hidden fields by going into the administration area and then selecting the hidden field. With the new quick menu for hidden fields you can easily navigate into the edit mode for the field right away.
    • New payment gateways including Pay Flow Pro and Verifi (Google Checkout to follow shortly)
    • Edit Results / Save for Later feature - When enabled, enhancements have been added to allow users to come back and edit their results. You can also include an Edit Link within email and other completion events, or as an admin go into the view results section and click the edit icon to manage a particular record. This is a major new feature as previously this type of work flow could not be handled unless you used a flat table as demonstrated in demo 14 and demo 21. You can demo the view and edit / save for later features here.
    • Now you can email all users within a particular security role. Email events have always allowed you to email based on tokenized values, but now you can setup events to email all emails within a role. For example, the completion event could email everyone within the 'Managers' security role, simply by using one token.
    • Enhancements and fixes to the date field type including the ability to use regular expression validation for dates, proper formatting within email and view results for localized dates (i.e. dd/mm/yyyy format), and a new date option for three dropdownlists for month/day/year. You can demo this feature here.
    • Completion events could always be setup to be fired based conditionally upon a users response, and now new features were added for the ability to fire an event when a response is 'NOT EQUAL' to a particular entry.
    • New enhancements for file upload and image field types including:
      • Choose alternate upload directory instead of DynamicForms_Images and DynamicForms_Uploads within the portals home directory.
      • Previouslly all files were saved with a unique filename, there are new features to store the file with a friendly name and the exact name. A friendly name is the exact name with a date and time stamp added to the filename.
      • You can now choose if the filename should be stored as the full http reference such as http://yoursite.com/file.jpg reference or just the filename such as file.jpg.
    • Question wizard now includes the ability to create new questions based on existing questions. You have always been able to clone questions from the drag/drop feature and also from the clone option when setting up a new feature however this enhancement allows for this process to be much quicker if you wanted to clone 10 fields all at once for example.

There are several other features not mentioned here... I would for sure check out all of the latest demos at: http://www.datasprings.com/formdemos.

No set release date yet for the 3.0 release but we are aiming for late May/early June. The module will be 50% off for customers who have purchased 2.x  and free for all users who have purchased the module within the last 90 days.

Thanks and please send us any comments!

    Chad

I hope the next version comes with regular expressions fixed to display the validation messages beside the field and not in the summary field.

    We are all waiting that!

Just let us know so we can celebrate it or not.

Yes it does, you can now specify regular expression error messages and error text similar to other client side validation.

Will the new Forms allow us to add questions side to side or will we remain restricted to only have them in a vertical format. I'm not sure how to say it but when i create a form it's vertical and sometimes a bit long. there is alot of empty space to the right that if i could organize it better side by side it could cut down the size of the form and my pages would not be so long.

Any help would be greate in this area.

Also is there any feature in the future about exporting a page that is done and importing one. so if we wanted to share with others people or have a place like samples that maybe really done it would be helpful and people would have a place to go and get templates and such..

    Donovan

The current version of Dynamic Forms can be customized to have several columns. If you want to have questions side by side you must leave the first question as it is, but the next one the number two need's a checkbox value to be changed. You must select display question in the same row of previous question. same operation for the next two questions for example. I mean re do the steps for the next row of questions. Also you can import and export modules right from the DNN exportation feature. Create your module content and then export the module in order to be used in an other place by someone else. You can check betasprings demo modules and maybe ask the Datasprings staff to get an exportation of any of the modules.

Thanks, feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Hi guys! We're looking at a June release for Dynamic Forms 3.0 -- possibly the 15th. Yes, it will be part of the collection so if you purchase the collection now, you will be eligible for a free upgrade when DF 3.0 is released. Thanks!

Hi, Chad, it will be great if you can add one more feather in the 3.0 release, it is very important when we use Dynamic SQL Statement in Form completion event, when the SQL statement fail ( or store procedure return 0 or someting) , give user a error message to notify the user .

    Could you consider that?
    Thanks

I'm glad of being of help. And sharing the good news!

I just installed my brand new dyn forms 3.0 in my dev instance, without a single problem. I'm working on the regular expression validation on tons of my forms, with error messages just beside the field. It's just what I needed I can't believe it.

Thanks to you guys. This really creates value in your customers products.

    Great Module, congratulations.

We've installed v 3.0 on DNN 5.1.0 - and all is working well except for the Form Completion EventsEmail Message

I have a particular message format that I use with the message parameters integrated within the message.

The Text box will save anything generated by the system, but nothing at all generated by anyone else.

Is this a bug or am I missing something here?

Would appreciate your help here. Thanks.

What do you mean by anything generated by the system, but nothing at all generated by anyone else?

Also the input of the textbox is the email body or what?

HI Anne, I'm confused about your statements as well. Can you be more specific about the problem you're having? perhaps provide a screenshot as well? Or see if you can duplicate the problem on www.betasprings.com (username: host, password: dnnhost)

    Thankyou for your replies.

Within the Form Completion events, there are 2 links to the right -

    Generate Results Template
    Generate Full Results Template

These generate the fields/results in the email editor in a template form.

We have our own format, so would prefer to use this (which I have used on earlier versions), but when I type anything and click "Update Event" v3.0 doesn't retain the changes.

Perhaps I am not following the correct process, so what process do you suggets for creating your own email format?

    Thanks, A

    Hi Anne,

This is an issue with AJAX and the editor. Please go to Module Configuration, General Settings and disable AJAX within module configuration. Then go back and edit your completion event and it should save properly. Thanks! -- Candace

I installe Dynamic Forms 3.0 and made a contact page with the ability for the visitor to send a question to my mailbox using a form on the page.

Although the form submits succesfully the mail is not sended. Apparantly I have an issue with the smt server. This is the error message in the eventviewer under admin:

    HI Anthony, several questions:
    1) can you go to Admin / Newsletter and send an email to yourself to see if it works?
    2) can you send email to your mailbox using outlook / gmail, etc?
    3) what do you have in your DF from email field?
Based on your description, it doesn't seem to like to send email to a particular address and we need to narrow down the issue. -- David
