Hey Guys,
I'm having a problem with my Opt In instance. For some reason I am suddenly getting loads of failed distributions. My list has around 560 subscribers, but out of that 560, about 290 come back as Failed Distribution.
When I check on the list cleanup, it shows lots of messages with "Failed to send mail, check address or SMTP settings."
Strange thing is.. over half of them DO go!
I can't find a reason for it? Any ideas on where to check? Any help apprecaited.
Sorry I forgot to add. I've tried Scheduled and straight send.. |

Hi Marc, A couple of questions... 1. Do you see any errors under admin/event viewer? This should spit out some more specific information to the event logs about the SMTP error returned. 2. Are you using the scheduler and throttling messages or just sending them all at once? It could be that your SMTP server has a limit on the number of emails that can go out at a specific time (like 500 per hour or something) and you need to utilize the throttling feature. Thanks! -Chad |

Hi There, Many thanks for the reply. Nothing in the event viewer unfortunately. The smtp server is our own exchange server. Newsletter was sent on a immediate schedule of 200 every 5 minutes. |

I am having this issue also and it is making my client very upset. No matter how we send out the newsletter (send immediately or schedule) it shows all as failed distributions we are using version 4.3 with DNN 5.5 I have installed opt in properly, and have been using this product for about 2 years now. (so please assume that the answer to your next five questions is that I have set it up properly) . It seems that with each new release of Opt-In one thing is fixed and another is broken, it is very frustrating. This Failed distributions is the new "broken" item. in addition I cannot get the image tracker to work and I have tried all of the correct settings, and read through every post on this forum trying to get it to work. The image shows as a broken image in Outlook and Opt in does not count views. I am not sure if this is tied in with this failed distributions issue, but I will assume so. Can I revert back to a previous version where the "Failed distributions" is working ? Thanks James |

Here is an update: I was able to get the image tracker to work if using "Schedule" and not "send immediately" (failed distributions still an issue though) . So here is the conclusion : the new button "send/schedule immediately" is a combo of the two old buttons "send immediately " and schedule immediately" , but with the same functionality as the old "send immediately". With the older versions the image tracking did now work with "send immediately" but did with "schedule immediately". So it looks like if you want your image tracking to work you need to use "Schedule" ONLY. I hope this helps others |

I have fixed the issue with the failed distributions: I was able to send out a newsletter using " Schedule" (not send immediately) and both the image tracker worked and the Failed distributions is showing the correct number ( 1 or 2 and NOT all). It does look like these two were tied. So to conclude, what it looks like needs to be done to correct the failed distributions is: - Get the image tracker working first (use only jpg has been recommended in previous threads)
- Send the newsletter out with "Schedule" only
(for reduced frustrations, avoid using the "send/schedule immediately" button) |

Hi Ryan, Many thanks for the reply. I have not yet had the opportunity to test it. Unfortunately my lists are live so I can't really send test emails as it would bother my users. I will hopefully be sending a new mailshot out next week so will report back. Thanks |

Hi Marc, You should create a separate test list and have 4 -5 emails on it that are yours or friends/family/colleagues that you can send to, to both test the system and make sure your email newsletter looks correct. I would not wait to "test" and see if things work on your live database. I will usually send out 2 -5 emails test before the final one |

Hello all, I am now having the "Failed distributions" issue again. My client has moved their email to an exchange server. and now I have had to set the mail server on the site to local host. The emails are being sent out but the system is still showing all emails as "Failed distributions" > I have set the alternate SMTP as local host as well Is there any to turn this OFF?? It is making my client very upset and they don't trust that all of the emails are going out. If there is a magic solution to either fix this, or just turn off failed distributions entirely this would make everyone very happy , please let me know Thanks

HI There, Unfortunately the fix above didn't work for me. I sent an email out last night, and rather than use send/schedule immediately, I just scheduled it for an hour in the future. Time clicked around and it sent 315 and failed distribution on 309. Unfortunately it seems that fix does not work for everyone |

I guess this is a bug in one of the latest versions of Opt In. I have earlier versions that are working flawlessly. In the last ones, with 498 of 501 "failed" distributions, I have almost 160 unique reads (20%) which is not possible if only 3 messages were sent. I've checked the SMTP server and all messages seem to have been correctly sent. I have to try the scheduled mode, I'll tell you how it works...

Hi Chad,
I have another client that PowerDNN had just upgrade to version 5.6.3.
They are using Opt In Email version 4.30.10.
Since the DNN upgrade, they sent an email newsletter to 1878 recipients with a failed distributions of 1874.
Previously to the upgrade, they were sending to this list weekly with success and only one or two failures.
They have the maximum number of emails to send in a single schedule: set at 50 with a time lapse of 10.
Please advise.
TIA Buck Anderson
